First impressions are the most memorable. These words of wisdom come to mind while thinking of what to wear on a first date. Before you can greet your date he/she has already formed an opinion about you based on your appearance giving reason why such a considerable amount of time and effort is put into individual presentation.
It is human nature to be aware of, some even concerned with, what others perceive about us. We want our entire being to say what may be too forward to speak. Available and respectable; approachable and flirty. The outfit should say something however, clothing is not the only thing we wear on first dates.
Makeup and hair choice are equally important in the “what to wear” category prepping for first dates. Good thing we have power in the prepping process to put our best foot forward! Preferably in the direction towards being taken seriously enough to pursue a continued dating relationship with.
Of course the outfit must say something before your lips even part. Remember the something that is said is affected by many factors: the amount of cleavage shown, tightness and shortness of clothing and height of heels, for women to name a few. You want your focus to be more on engaging in conversation instead of the distraction of a possible slip of your top. Constantly tugging at your cleavage area would draw more attention than wanted and may even cause confusion as to whether he/she is into the conversation or your “love on top.” If you insist on wearing your favorite low cut blouse, a large neck jewelry piece could serve as a great concealer.
More importantly, make sure that your choice of outfit is appropriate for the outing. For example, if your first date is bowling you may be uncomfortable in a fitting skirt attempting to spare the sight of your valuables. Keep the competition within the lanes.
There is a difference between beating your face for a first date and a girls’ night out at club. You want to keep it light. Light foundation or powder paired with a light colored lip and natural eye shadow works best. The choice of lip color can take an outfit from day to night just like shoes. Nudes and soft pinks give off a more natural relaxed look. Do not worry, your face will subtly fierce.
In the 21st century, hairstyles vary from locs, relaxed or natural hair, mixed textures, weaves and wigs. There is not a right or wrong way to wear your hair. No matter your hair preference, neatness and cleanliness are essential. The sense of smell is instrumental. The hug that we look forward to at the beginning and the end of an outing, allows your date to take in the smell of your fragrance, pheromones and scent of your hair. Make sure you give off an unforgettable scent!
First dates can be intimidating all by themselves. Regardless of what you wear of the outside remember not to allow it to overshadow your personality. Above all be you, the best you one can be.
